There is a phrase in Italy that captures a way of living beautifully.
La Dolce Vita - The sweet life
It is not about luxury or extravagance. It is about appreciating the simple pleasures that make life rich. A morning cappuccino, a walk through a quiet village, the warmth of community, and the joy of lingering a little longer at the table.
For many years I traveled to Italy, returning again and again, drawn by something I could never quite explain. Eventually that journey became something deeper - a life lived partly in Italy and partly at home in North America.
Along the way I discovered that La Dolce Vita is not only a place. It is a way of seeing the world. It is choosing beauty, connection, curiosity, and joy at every stage of life.
Here I share the stories, reflections, and lessons learned from years spent wandering through Italy and beyond - and how those experiences have shaped a life centered around travel, and belonging to a community.
Because the sweet life is not something we wait for....It is something we choose to create, and share how I navigated a move to Italy.
My Finished Kitchen in Borgo a Mozzano, the center of the house. This is where we gather and I start each day with a cappuccino.

In the evening, I sit on the window sill and wait and watch the sunset. The window sill is from 1200 and I image the people that have come before me.

The Devil's Bridge has been part of my life for 30 years. When I am there, I walk to the bridge at least once a day, sometimes more.
