There is a phrase in Italy that does not translate easily, but you feel it the moment you arrive.
Il dolce far niente. The sweetness of doing nothing
It is difficult to do as a tourist, but if you try, you will start to understand what it means.
I was sitting at my favorite little restaurant in Pisa, just steps from the Leaning Tower. All around me, people were rushing.
Cameras in hand. Checking the time. Moving from one sight to the next.
You could feel the urgency in the air- we must see everything.
And there I was...
Sitting sipping a cappuccino, No schedule. No reason to hurry. Watching it all pass by.
At one point, I caught myself smiling - not at anything in particular, but at the simple realization that I had nowhere else to be.
No list to check off. No clock to follow. Just this moment to be in.
Italy has a way of teaching you that. Not loudly. Not all at once. But slowly, gently...it reminds you that life is not meant to be rushed through.
It is meant to be lived in.
And sometimes, the most beautiful place you can be... is exactly where you are, doing absolutely nothing at all.
Wish you were here... Saving you a seat at the table and a story for the road ahead.
